New Original One-of-a-kind Blue Persian Cat Folk Art Doll by Max Bailey

Hyacinth might be described as an intellectual.

She is currently attending Kitty College to get her master’s degree in human psychology. The book she carries is called “Know Your Human”. It has lots of good tips.

Hyacinth has noticed that life seems very complicated for the human beings around her. They often require her help in solving their problems, and frequently need her counseling.

Hyacinth patiently points out to them that life is really very simple. You eat, you play, you sleep. That’s about it.
In her careful observation of human beings, Hyacinth has noted that there is a direct correlation between their being in a good mood, and giving out kitty treats.

She has determined that it is in her best interest to keep them as cheerful as possible.

Hyacinth is a Blue Persian cat, who sees the world through beautiful and intense yellow eyes. She wears a yellow dress with a pattern of blue flowers. Three blue bows with white polka dots adorn the front of her dress. They match the big bow at the back. Her collar and petticoats are white.
Hyacinth is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, and is meant for display only. No molds are ever used in my work. She and her book are hand sculpted from paperclay, and entirely hand painted using acrylic paints. Her gray whiskers are made from stiffened cotton thread.

Hyacinth is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. She rests firmly on a turned wooden base that is stained and sealed in golden oak. She stands 9 ¼ inches tall.

New Gray Tabby Maine Coon Cat Art Doll by Max Bailey

I just finished "Catarina"! She's my new beautiful Maine Coon Cat, with tufted ears and big yellow oval eyes. Catarina is wearing her favorite calico dress, the one with the red rosette that compliments her cute red nose. Her favorite pull toy is Harold, the purple giraffe. Harold has wheels so he can go with her everywhere.

Catarina is a one-of-a-kind original work of art. I created her from my own design and patterns. She is made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and painted with acrylic paint. I sculpted the front of her face from Paperclay, which I smoothed into the fabric. I threaded her wily whiskers through the clay before it dried.

Catarina's arms are button-jointed, so she can be easily posed, and her striped tail supports her so she can sit up all by herself. She has cotton lace around the neck of her dress and around her wrists.
Harold is hand painted with acrylic paint as well. Both Catarina and Harold are sealed with matte varnish for protection.

New Chrysanthemum Flower Baby Fairy Art Doll by Elizabeth Ruffing

"Greta", my new chrysanthemum flower baby fairy is finished! I'll be putting her up for auction on eBay starting Friday, June 15th at about 9pm EST.

She has an antique reproduction baby face of papier mâché. Her head and pointed ears are paperclay, and her body is 100% cotton cloth. Her pale green butterfly wings with yellow spots are hand quilted and she is entirely hand painted with acrylic paint. She will be sealed with matte varnish for protection.
She has hidden button joints which make her posable, just like "Rosa" who left for her new home at the beginning of this week. I managed to get a few pictures of them together before she left on her journey.

Greta has an oak-colored stand that lifts her in the air so she can practice flying, and running through the air. She enjoys that.
You can view more pictures of them both on Flickr.

I'm also introducing some mini art plaques. I've painted 6 by 6 inch solid poplar wood to coordinate with my artwork and mounted several reproductions of my original watercolors on them. Above are "The Fairy and the Dove" and "Fairies and Butterflies".

Clockwise from the upper left these are "The Guardian", "Laurence with Primroses and Daffodils", "Iris and Foxgloves", and "The Rabbit Dances". They are all made using archival grade materials and I will be varnishing them for further protection. Prints of these images are available on our website.

New Tuxedo Cat Original Art Doll by Max Bailey

This is Sunny the black and white tuxedo cat, named for his happy disposition and his round yellow eyes. Sunny is a good-natured and obedient cat. He'll always come when he's called if he feels like it.
Sunny's favorite toy is a painted wooden car. He got it for Christmas and hasn't parted with it since.
Sunny is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, created from my own design and pattern. He is made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and completely hand-painted with acrylic paints. I sculpted the front of his face from paperclay.

He's wearing blue and white striped overalls with a big sun blanket-stitched onto the bib with orange embroidery thread. It matches the sun on the hood of his blue and orange car.

Rosa the Flower Baby Original Art Doll by Elizabeth Ruffing

She's done! Rosa is all painted and ready to go. I'll be putting her up for auction on eBay tonight starting at about 9pm EST.

Here she is....Bluebell the Siamese Mom!

We just managed to get Bluebell and her lovely daughter, Bridget photographed before we got a thunderstorm! I'm just crazy about this set of original art dolls! As I've said, I love Siamese cats, and to make sure I gave her that Siamese profile, I modeled the front of Bluebell’s face from paperclay, then smoothed it into the 100% cotton fabric I used for her body.

Using acrylic paint, I painted her starched white collar, prim pearl buttons, and fashionable two-tone, top-stitched high-button shoes. From her bright white bloomers emerge kitty legs in striped blue and burnt orange tights that match the sleeves of her dress. Bluebell’s dress has a bluebell flower on the chest pocket, and a fringed pocket on the skirt that matches the fringe at her hemline.

Lovable Bridget is highly detailed too...right down to her tiny whiskers.

New One-of-a-kind Original Star Baby Art Doll by Elizabeth Ruffing

"Sigrid the Star Baby" is making her debut! Sigrid is a newly born star. She is jointed at her shoulders and hips so she can lie down or sit. She is made of 100% cotton which was gessoed, painted with acrylic artists' paint, then sealed with matte varnish for protection...just like I would treat an original painting.

She has an adorable pouting baby face, with one little tear on her cheek.

I am offering a giclée print of "Moon and Star" as well. It makes a lovely companion piece for Sigrid because it goes so nicely with her turquoise and gold onesie. "Moon and Star" is featured on her hang tag.

New Red Rose Fairy Original Folk Art Doll by Max Bailey

According to my grandmother, we had fairies to thank for all things beautiful on the earth. From her imagination (and from mine), here is Rosalie, the Red Rose Fairy. She flies through gardens like a butterfly, and touches the rosebuds with her rose-tipped wand to make them open.

She is a one-of-a-kind, original folk art doll, made of 100% cotton painted with acrylic paint. She has a small loop for hanging. Blue-eyed and raven-haired, she is dressed all in teal blue, with a cascade of roses, rosebuds, and leaves that flow down her body to her toes. The golden three-leaf motif at her neckline also encircles her wrists, and her colorful wings bear portraits of her favorite flower.

Rosalie will be up for auction on EBay starting Friday, March 30th, at about 9pm EST. Please go bid on her!

Also, please go check out my new MySpace page. If you are on MySpace (it's a social networking site that is free to join), go ahead and add me to your friends list!

New Max Bailey Angel with Pansies Original Folk Art Doll

I'm pleased to announce the arrival of Patricia...Angel of Pansies! Pansies are among the oldest known garden flowers, and I like to think that over the years, some garden angels have been at work to create such beautiful blooms. Patricia is one of these angels. When she picks a pansy from the garden, two more will bloom in its place.

Patricia is a true one-of-a-kind original work of art, created from my own design and pattern. She is made from 100% cotton fabric, which is sewn, stuffed, and completely hand-painted with acrylic paints. She comes with her own oval wood stand, oak-stained and finished.

She will be up for auction in our EBay store shortly. Please come bid on her!

New Max Bailey art dolls in the works

These are my drawings for two original folk art dolls I am working on. The one on the left will be a fairy. I am planning to give her a rose-tipped wand to help her tend her gardens.

The one the right is an angel holding a bouquet of pansies. With spring on the way, I am thinking about flowers and how happy I will be to see them make a return.

"Lumina" New Original Folk Art Doll by Max Bailey

Here's my new original, one-of-kind star fairy folk art doll, "Lumina". My grandmother's fantastical bedtime stories inspired me to make her. I loved her stories about creatures who would do special favors for you when you weren't looking. I gave Lumina a star-tipped wand just for this purpose.

These are some of my drawings, along with my notes and the pattern I designed for her.
I'll be putting her up for auction in our EBay store soon.
