New A E Ruffing "Black-capped Chickadee and Iris" Giclee Print

I've added a new 8 x 10 inch giclée print to both our web site and my Etsy shop. This giclée is based on my original watercolor painting "Black-capped Chickadee and Iris".

I painted this familiar bird looking alert and inquisitive, the way I often see him in the garden. He's a striking little bird, and I think the soft mauves of the iris make him look all the more dramatic, with his sharply-contrasted blacks and whites and grays. I set him against a pale yellow sky, with a deep blue-shadowed tree and distant woods of golds, greens, mauves, and blues behind him.

This giclée is a standard 8 x 10 inch image size, on 9 x 11 inch art paper, and is hand signed.

New Max Bailey "Bleuette" Folk Art Doll Original Painting on Poplar Wood

I'm so excited about "Bleuette"! I just finished her and she is gorgeous! Her big blue eyes and sweet smile were inspired by the ever popular Bleuette antique dolls who were first introduced in France in 1905 in La Semaine de Suzette magazine. Little French girls learned to sew making the patterns the magazine offered for Bleuette's extensive wardrobe. The premiere Bleuette was a Jumeau style doll, and was offered for free with a one year subscription to the magazine. Little Bleuette was so popular that she was offered in many, many incarnations until 1960. Today, she is still incredibly popular, and both the original dolls and their reproductions are widely collected.

This is an original painting done in the American folk art portrait style, with Bleuette emerging from a warm dark brown background that blends into black at the edges. Here Bleuette is shown as an angel who watches over bluebirds, two of which rest calmly in her hands and on her shoulder. She wears an old-fashioned blue dress with lace trim, and an ecru apron with a burgundy stripe.

"Bleuette" will be up for auction on EBay starting Friday, April 6th, at about 9pm EST. She is painted on solid poplar wood which is coated with a gloss varnish. “Bleuette” would be a lovely complement to any antique collection. Please go bid on her!

My Etsy shop has some new additions. I've listed quite a few of my fine art giclées in my shop. These are a small sampling. Above is "Oriole and Daylily", depicting a Northern Oriole perched on an orange daylily.

This is "Hiding", showing a little Eastern cottontail rabbit tucked away among the black-eyed Susans.

And this is "Sunday Morning", a country porch scene with a rocking chair, all in blues and greens.
