This
is my one-of-a-kind original folk art doll, Clara, named after
Clara from "The Nutcracker". She was inspired by the charming Izannah
Walker dolls of the 1800's. I designed both her body pattern and her
dress pattern myself, then carefully sewed each up in 100% cotton
fabric. I made Clara's face in antique reproduction Jumeau style
using papier
mâché
and added hand-sculpted ringlets and pin curls of paperclay all the way
around her head.
|
 |
| Clara
was gessoed , then finely detailed with acrylic paint, and sealed with
matte varnish for protection. Her deep blue eyes are entirely hand
painted as well. |

|
 |
Clara's
fingers are hand quilted and lightly wired to give them a gentle curl,
and her arms bend slightly at the elbows. She is jointed at her
shoulders, hips, and knees.
|
 |
 |
| I
made Clara's lovely dress from a beautiful pink quilter's cotton I'd
been saving for something special. It is dotted with pale pink
chrysthanthemums, a symbol of innocence, hope, and good cheer. Her sash
ties in the back to make a pretty bow. |
 |
 |
I
sewed two pin tucks at the bottom of her dress and added a big three
inch hem to make the skirt stand out nicely. All the seams are
carefully finished.

Many
hours went into making Clara an heirloom-quality doll. She is meant for
display only, and she would be a very special addition to a young, or
young-at-heart, girl's room. Clara is a
one-of-a-kind work of art. There is no other like her. |
 |
 |
| She is signed
and dated and comes with a hang tag featuring my artwork, which is also
signed. Clara is approximately 15 inches tall. |
 |
 |
Clara's
antique-style undergarments are hand-painted and detailed
with
hand-painted white lace trim. Her boots have little hand-painted gold
buttons on their sides. Her bottom is weighted with Poly-Pellets so she
can sit nicely. (Chair not included.)
